Die "Bayerische Braunkohlen-Industrie AG Schwandorf" übergab 1983 nach ihrer Auflösung ihr Archiv und ihre Registratur an das Staatsarchiv. Das Unternehmen war seit 1905 zuständig für den Abbau von Braunkohle im Raum um Schwandorf, insbesondere bei Wackersdorf, das zu diesem Zweck in den 1950er Jahren abgebrochen und andernorts neu errichtet wurde. 1982 wurde der Tagebau eingestellt.
